Pelgrane Press Welcomes Robin D. Laws as New Creative Director

We are beyond thrilled to announce that, after two decades of brilliant collaboration, Robin D. Laws has officially stepped into the role of Creative Director at Pelgrane Press.

For more than 20 years, Robin has been a driving creative force behind so many of our most significant and innovative projects. He designed Pelgrane’s very first RPG, The Dying Earth, and went on to invent the GUMSHOE investigative system that now powers so many of our RPGs. He also designed the genre-defining DramaSystem that Hillfolk uses, and has in the years since reimagined GUMSHOE for one player and a GM with the One-2-One system in Cthulhu Confidential, and reinvented it again in QuickShock format with The Yellow King RPG.

Robin’s vision and artistic instincts have helped shape who Pelgrane Press is. It’s no exaggeration to say that he knows our brand inside and out—because he’s designed most of it!—and now, we’re lucky enough to have his perspective leading the charge.

“We’ve worked closely with Robin for so long, he’s basically family,” said Cat Tobin, Managing Director and co-owner of Pelgrane Press. “Making this official just feels right. We couldn’t ask for a better person to help guide us into the next chapter of Pelgrane.”

“Since Pelgrane’s very first days I have been lucky enough to work with founder Simon J. Rogers and then with Cat to shape a game company through my writing and game design”, said Robin D. Laws. “It is maybe not a coincidence that Pelgrane made quality writing the core of its identity, as seen in the work of such indispensable colleagues as Kenneth Hite, Gareth Hanrahan, and Rob Heinsoo. Only the chance to recruit and train the next generation of Pelgrane writers—plus flattery and oysters—could persuade me to accept the desk job I have shirked all for these years.”

As Creative Director, Robin will be steering the creative ship across all our projects—bringing fresh ideas, elevating our storytelling, developing new writers, and ensuring everything we put out into the world feels unmistakably us.

Please join us in giving a huge, heartfelt welcome (and congratulations!) to Robin. We can’t wait for what comes next.
