A future, unimaginably distant…

The sun, now in its dotage is a swollen maroon orb. It stutters and blinks. At any moment it may finally go out.

Earth, immensely old…

Dig anywhere and find a buried city or the shore of a vanished sea. Deodand-haunted woods stretch from decadent Kaiin to the Land of the Falling Wall. Erbs and grue hunt in the wilds.

Magic, rich and colourful…

Enchantment shapes the world. Any dabbler may know a few simple cantraps. Magicians in lavish manses struggle to master Earth's last great spells, while all-powerful cabals intrigue against rivals or plot revenge for ancient feuds.

  • Download The Exasperating Cadaver, a Cugel-level Dying Earth scenario by Ian Thomson, set in the city of Kaiin
  • Download The Kaiinese Drakeling, a non-sequential sequel to the adventure of the Exasperating Cadaver (above), reintroducing several familiar faces and locations. {FoF 0:9}
  • Download Axomber's Crypt - a Cugel-Level (or possibly low Turjan-Level) by Ian Thomson. Details include not only the fun-filled crypt, but also notes for a mini-campaign travelling from Azenomei to Kaiin adapting information from the Scaum Valley Gazetteer. This piece is a companion to the free sample chapter on the Valley of Graven Tombs, which is required for optimum running of this scenario. {FoF 0:8}
  • Download The High Road to Kaiin, a "Footsteps of Fools" scenario that falls between the 'Caravan to Aktabras' (XPS Vol 4/5) adventure and the 'Exasperating Cadaver' scenario above. {FoF 0:3}.
  • Download A Walk in the Woods - An extended ending for the High Road to Kaiin scenario (above). Since both that original scenario and this extension (which may also stand as part of another scenario) are creature-focussed, see them as adjuncts to Tooth, Talon & Pinion. {FoF 0:4}
  • Download Flolad's Nephew - A free 12-page adventure outline adding to the original "Footsteps of Fools" series. Set in Kaiin after the 'Kaiinese Drakeling' (see above) this can be used immediately prior to All's Fair At Azenomei. The PCs are seconded into the bodyguard racket. Their employer is the worryingly powerful Flolad of Odkin Prospect; their charge is Flolad's loutish scion of an adopted nephew. {FoF 0:10}
  • Download Wiping the Slate Clean, a Turjan-level adventure by Steve Dempsey. Part 1 : Part 2
  • Download the Dying Earth Quickstart Rules
  • Download the original appendices, deleted from the Dying Earth book due to lack of space. They include the names of creatures, flora, NPC names, food, materials, games and a couple of tables from the Dying Earth Tales.
  • Download a GM’s aid for tracking Improvement Points, Wealth Owned, and Sympathy Points. Printing this two-page sheet double sided allows you to track up to eight characters with ease.
  • Download abbreviated character sheets for the stats of GMCs. On the first page you can cover two ‘personality’ GMCs and on the second page up to four ‘lackeys’.
  • Download the printable files from the Revivification Folio:
  • Download Names.xls - A superb utility by Steve Dempsey, which creates cast numbers of NPC names for Dying Earth characters.
  • Download Personages and Sources - from the Origin of Species thread on the Dying Earth mailing list
  • Download Kaiin Old Town Guide (inspired by the excellent Kaiin Players' Guide)
  • Download The Guide to Azenomei (also inspired by the Kaiin Players' Guide)
  • Download Volume 1 of the Excellent Prismatic Spray
  • Download The Wayfarer's Guide to Saskervoy Town - A geographical guide (including map) by Ian Thomson is presented as an adjunct to the Strangers in Saskervoy adventure series
  • Download The Guide to Old Romarth - A seven-page document with map by Ian Thomson that gives a fine outline of the version of Old Romarth featured in And Thence...to Almery. This guide is an essential adjunct to running 'And Thence...to Almery' since a substantial piece of the action occurs in this dark city. However, the guide can also be used as a stand-alone piece.
  • Download the Dying Earth Quickstart Rules
  • Download some additional rules, designed as personal expansions to the official rules:
    • Revitalization covers various possibilities for the restoration of life
    • Supernatural Terror presents amusing options for those who fail their Wherewithal at Cugel Level
    • Enhanced Action ruling provides a means of adjudicating events that happen too swiftly for a series of rolls against pool points to be realistic
  • Download alternate rules for Cugel-level gaming. Ian Thomson's house rules for the Dying Earth RPG, utilise the d20 but are most decidedly not related to the generic D20 system. Heretically designed as a way to play Cugel-Level DERPG more in the manner of a classical weird-fantasy RPG. (Alternate adapted character sheet included.)
  • Download Using Spells at Cugel-level - An eight-page piece by Ian Thomson for those GMs who run (or plan to) adventures for PCs with Magic ratings of 0-7, where the PCs are beginning to explore real spells. Explore the pitfalls and pratfalls (and mechanics) of learning and attempting to use magic when you're an ill-trained Dabbler rather than a real apprentice Magician. Includes several robustly jocular Spell Failure tables. Also contains various amusingly imperfect spells (and their likely entertaining consequences) of the kind often found on 'genuine scrolls of unquestionable archaic provenance' and inside 'mouldering tomes of authentic ancient munificence'.
  • Magical Footnotes - a short series of magic-related rules extensions and suggestions by Ian Thomson. Recently salvaged final fragments of the ancient archives that were thought to have been entirely emptied by rogue clevenger!
  • Advanced Cantraps is the background article (including many examples) for the optional more potent cantraps that were first introduced as an appendix for Demons of the Dying Earth
  • The Magic of the Wilds - Once upon a time a DE Bestiary was mooted. This has now been subsumed into the Dying Earth Compendium. For reasons of space various pieces cannot be included in the redesigned book. One section is right here - a bunch of spells and cantraps related to creatures and the wilderness.
  • Gilgad's Wilderness Survival Guide - Another piece salvaged from quality material that was originally earmarked for inclusion in the Dying Earth Bestiary, this features a selection of magical items, tweaks and bonus tag-lines.
  • The Forgotten Deities of the Dying Earth - As an atonement for Demons of the Dying Earth, Ian Thomson brings you an opportunity to bring goodness, light and sanity (not!) to your version of Vance's wonderful ancient world
  • Necrophages of the Dying EarthPrimarily from the pen (and indeed bizarre imagination) of Greg Saunders, augmented and laid-out by Ian Thomson. It serves as an expansion to the material on necrophages in Demons of the Dying Earth
  • Archaeological Discussions on the 18th Aeon - by Greg Saunders. Not only an academic report on several antique societies, but also contains adventure ideas, new spells, and a number of magical relics.
  • Exotic Weaponry of the Dying Earth - Ian Thomson with a nuts and bolts look at some of the more outlandish weapons from the stories, and a discussion of how to use them in your campaign.
  • Colourful Play - Lynne Hardy writes on how to play the Dying Earth RPG
  • The Royal Cartographers - A guide by Ian Thomson on using the Scaum Valley Gazetteer as a single complete travelogue/campaign
